Children's Privacy

Only an adult can create a SoundSprout account. The adult adds each child profile and chooses what goes in it. There is no child login, no email address for a child, and no way for a child to sign up.

• • A first name or nickname — a nickname is completely fine.
• • A chosen woodland character.
• • A chosen practice sound.
• • Which days they completed practice, and their streak.

That's all. We don't ask for a child's age or date of birth, and no surname, address, school, photo, location or contact details are collected.

During practice the browser measures only the loudness of sound so the character can react while your child speaks. Nothing is recorded, stored, uploaded, transcribed or analyzed, and no audio leaves the device. SoundSprout does not use speech recognition. The app works without microphone permission.

There is no advertising anywhere in SoundSprout, no in-app purchases in the child experience, no links out to social media from child screens, and no way for a child to contact or be contacted by anyone.

The parent holds the account and can view all practice history, change or remove a child's profile, and delete the account and its data at any time from the Parent area. Sensitive parent and account controls sit behind a simple adult check so a child doesn't wander into them.

We designed SoundSprout around data minimization and parental control, which are the principles behind children's privacy laws such as COPPA and the UK Age Appropriate Design Code. We describe our actual practices here rather than making a certification claim. If you need specific assurances for a school, clinic or organization, please get in touch.

A parent or guardian can ask to review or delete their child's data at any time by emailing hello@thesoundsprout.com from the address on the account.

SoundSprout supports home practice. It does not diagnose or treat speech difficulties and does not replace a licensed speech-language pathologist.
