How to make speech practice fun

Motivation is the engine of home practice. A child who wants to practice tomorrow is worth more than a perfect session today.

Give it a story

Characters and a little narrative ("help the rabbit wake up the forest") turn repetition into a mission.

Offer choices

Let your child pick the game, the order of words or which toy gets to "listen".

Praise the effort

"You kept trying on that one!" builds persistence. Research on praise suggests praising effort supports motivation better than praising being "smart" or "good at it".

Celebrate finishing

A sticker, a streak or a silly dance at the end marks the win.

Skip the bribes

Big prizes can make practice feel like a chore to get through. Small, immediate celebrations work better.
